Event Branding
Undergraduate Research Symposium
Assumption College wasn't pleased with their non-designer branding for the Undergraduate Research Symposium. I don't know what exactly they were using, but there was Microsoft WordArt in a few places. They didn't know what direction to go as far as branding so I had to do some brainstorming. I came up with four potential ideas:
Top-left: Community, badge of achievement, industrial growth, success.
Top-right: Science, scientific discovery, modern typography, futuristic.
Bottom-left: Nautical, navigation, exploration and discovery, adventure.
Bottom-right: Clean, sophisticated, professional, political, generic.

You'll never guess which one they picked. Just kidding, it's the giant photo I put above this text! Good choice too, Gill Sans is one of my favorites. Assumption College liked the idea of nautical and exploration for the symposium so it was incorporated into the illustrative style.
I took the little sailboat from the other logo and built it into the other designed elements. Below you can see the poster for the event and the back of the t-shirt. I found the quote to be quite fitting for a research symposium.

Note: They loved my branding so much that they used it two years in a row and decided to make an annual symposium branding competition for design students. I was asked to be a part of the panel of judges to select the winning student for the following year.
